2013 Aid and Attendance Benefits Maximum Rates
Veteran with spouse: $2,054/month = $24,652/year
Veteran with no dependents: $1,733/month = $20,795/year
Widow(er) of Veteran: $1,113/month = $13,362/year
Basic Eligibility Requirements for Homebound and Aid Attendance

Must have served 90 consecutive days of active duty with at least one day during a war time period

Must have received a discharge other than dishonorable

Certain assets and income restrictions

Veteran or Spouse must need assistance with activities of daily living
In general, qualifying wartime periods are:

World War I
-
World War II – Dec. 7, 1941 – Dec. 31, 1946

Korean War – June 27, 1950 – Jan. 31, 1955
-
Vietnam War – Aug. 5, 1964 – May 7, 1975
-
Gulf War – August 2, 1990 through date to be set by law by Presidential Proclamation

2010 Compensation & Pension Rate Information
VA compensation and pension benefits cost of living allowance (COLA) is paid based on the Social Security Administration (SSA) COLA. Compensation COLA by statue may not be more than the SSA COLA and pension COLA is equal to the SSA COLA. This year SSA did not increase COLA. VA will be providing letters to beneficiaries informing them that there will be no COLA for 2010.
